Dyslexia Blog

Welcome to dyslexia octopus

Aug 4, 2025 | Dyslexia Blog, Education & Parenting

I’m sure you are wondering why I’ve called my blog ‘Dyslexia Octopus’.

Like most people with dyslexia, I am a picture thinker. I see dyslexia as a giant octopus: one arm for each area of dyslexic challenge.

The dyslexia octopus seems to have the upper hand sometimes in the wrestling ring of life. It certainly causes problems during the school years.

In my blog posts, I offer tips on how I’ve dealt with my dyslexia struggles and those of my son Harry.  After trying many dyslexia interventions, Harry can now spell and read at the appropriate level for his age.

I’ll discuss what worked for him and what didn’t help at all. I’ll also look at the less well-known aspects of dyslexia, such as the many health and social challenges.

Here are some of my most popular posts:

I taught my son to read and spell in 30 minutes a day. Here are my affiliate links to the resources I used, All  About Spelling and All About Reading.

If your child also struggles to learn the multiplication tables, check out this blog post on how using stories will help them remember the facts.
